About Triton Partners

Triton is a European investment firm focused on the mid-market, with a strong emphasis on operational improvement. Founded in 1997, it has raised more than €25 billion and made around 600 investments across Business Services, Industrial Technology and Healthcare.

The challenge

What needed solving

Every investor Triton takes on has to clear anti-money-laundering (AML) checks: a large set of personal and business details, supporting documents, internal reviews and several rounds of approval. Done by hand, onboarding was slow, information got lost, and the delays reached investment timelines.

Triton needed one controlled place to run it - flexible enough for every kind of investor, strict enough for the sensitive data it holds, and clear about where each application stands.

AML isn’t a form. It’s a trail of decisions - and every one of them is on record.

The solution

What we built

A 2C team of five engineers and a tech lead took on the whole AML lifecycle: inviting an investor, collecting their data and documents, internal review and requests for more information, then document signing and final approval.

We started from how AML actually works - different investors need different questions, and every decision has to be traceable. So questionnaire content, investor data, workflow and audit records are kept apart, and the questionnaire itself lives in the database rather than the code.

  • Questionnaires stored in the database, with follow-up questions based on earlier answers
  • Eight investor categories, from Individual and Corporate to Trust or Foundation and Government & SOEs
  • Validation rules and external data lookups before an application moves on
  • Document generation and e-signing tied to each application
  • Status history and audit records for every application
  • Strict permissions, including controlled access for Apex, the external team handling tax questionnaires
  • Separate Development, QA, UAT and Production environments

The result

What changed

  • Faster onboarding, with far less information lost along the way

  • Clear visibility and control over every application

  • A questionnaire that changes as requirements do, without code changes

  • In use today as part of Triton’s investor onboarding, with further phases planned
