About Hole-in-One
Hole-in-One is a consumer platform that makes golf more rewarding for everyday players, starting in South Africa.
The challenge
What needed solving
Golf’s most iconic moment had no reliable, fair or monetised way to be rewarded. The idea: golfers register a round, pay an entry fee, and claim a cash reward if they make a hole-in-one.
The hard part was trust - verifying a real-world event digitally, preventing fraud and handling payments securely, all from a phone in the middle of a golf course.
Two people. Full product. Mobile, web, backend and integrations - all delivered.
The solution
What we built
A two-person 2C team delivered the platform end to end, in direct contact with the client. One engineer drove the product through most of its lifecycle, backed by senior DevOps expertise for a production-grade environment.
Golfers use a cross-platform React Native app and administrators a React web platform, both on a Node.js and PostgreSQL backend, with CI/CD on GitHub Actions and containerised environments.
- Multi-step round registration with Paystack payments, verified by webhooks
- Automatic location capture at the course
- Structured evidence submission with photo and video
- Signed uploads to AWS S3 or Azure Blob Storage
- Admin platform for courses, reward tiers and claim verification
- Vouchers for corporate and promotional entries
The result
What changed
A production-ready platform across mobile and web
Secure, verifiable monetisation of golf rounds
Clear oversight of claims and rewards for administrators
Built to support thousands of players across hundreds of courses
