About Compass Group

Compass Group is a global leader in food service and support services. It operates in more than 30 countries and serves millions of meals a day across business, healthcare, education and leisure.

The challenge

What needed solving

Compass Group’s stock moves through a long chain: central warehouses, regional storage, kitchens and point-of-use locations. Tracking and counting it by hand across that many places is slow and error-prone, and it’s hard to act on slow-moving stock before it spoils.

The goal: end-to-end visibility and control over inventory - more accurate stock, less waste, and smarter procurement and consumption.

Stock counts don’t wait for Wi-Fi. Neither does ILM.

The solution

What we built

A five-person 2C team - four developers and a team lead - built Inventory Lifecycle Management (ILM): one system that follows every item and batch from receipt and storage to consumption and disposal, at every level of the chain.

Stock counts happen where the stock is, connected or not - so ILM works fully offline and syncs automatically once the connection is back.

ILM runs on the platform 2C built for Compass on Neptune DXP and AWS. Each person sees only the apps meant for their role in Compass Group’s SAP hierarchy, and only the frontend is open to the internet.

  • Multi-level tracking across central warehouses, regional storage, kitchens and point-of-use locations
  • Digital stock counting across locations, online or offline
  • Automatic sync when the connection returns
  • Lifecycle and status tracking for every item and batch
  • Monitoring that flags slow-moving or at-risk stock before it goes to waste

The result

What changed

  • More accurate inventory and faster stock-taking

  • Clear visibility across every storage location

  • Less food waste and better-balanced stock levels

  • Procurement, operations and finance teams deciding on real data
