About Compass Group

Compass Group is a global leader in food service and support services. It operates in more than 30 countries and serves millions of meals a day across business, healthcare, education and leisure.

The challenge

What needed solving

Every stock movement, procurement transaction and internal transfer across Compass Group’s operations has a financial side. Recording it by hand means manual accounting work, room for error, slower financial closing - and finance figures that have to be reconciled against what operations actually did.

The goal: automate and standardise how financial transactions are recorded, and give finance teams near real-time insight.

Every stock movement already tells a financial story. DBK writes it down.

The solution

What we built

A four-person 2C team - three engineers and a team lead - built Dynamic Book Keeping (DBK). It connects to Compass Group’s inventory and procurement systems and turns operational events into structured accounting entries, so financial data reflects what’s really happening in operations, with no manual reconciliation.

DBK runs on the platform 2C built for Compass on Neptune DXP and AWS: three layers in separate containers, with only the frontend open to the internet and financial data kept in a private database that only the application can reach.

  • Automated recording of stock movements, procurement transactions and internal transfers
  • Operational events converted into structured accounting entries
  • Real-time visibility of costs, margins and operational financial metrics across locations
  • Integration with inventory and procurement systems
  • Every financial event stored with traceability and audit logs

The result

What changed

  • Fewer manual errors in financial records

  • Faster financial closing

  • Continuous financial transparency across operations

  • Audit-ready records that support regulatory compliance and internal audit
